Last Monday the Oilers were nine points up on ninth place Los Angeles and the Kings had a game in hand. Today, they are ten points ahead of the Kings and both have 17 games remaining. The playoffs are coming, and after a decade outside the dance, it is time we look at what some young Oilersnation readers might have thought was only a myth, this wondrous entity called the postseason.

With the trade deadline in the rearview mirror, the biggest story surrounding the Oilers as we head into the final six weeks of the season will be where they finish in the Pacific Division. Making the playoffs is almost guaranteed at this point, but the real race will be for home ice advantage in the first round.

Can the Oilers secure home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs for the first time in 27 years?

Brandon Davidson was a rare feel good story in a gloomy era of Oilers hockey. He overcame testicular cancer and as a sixth round selection in 2010, beat the odds of making it to the NHL. Very few 162nd overall picks play in the NHL, but to date Davidson has dressed for 91 NHL games.

He is a great story, but was he going to be part of the Oilers future?

The Steve Austin Line

Steve Austin was a pop culture icon in the 1970s. He was the main character on the TV show The Six Million Dollar Man, which aired for five years (1973-1978), but watching reruns in the 1980s was when I fell in love with it. Austin, played by Lee Majors, was awesome.

Game Day

We love HOME games; have Liquor Depot deliver in under an hour. Click, pick, sit back and watch the game.

The Edmonton Oilers have a three-game winning streak versus the St.Louis Blues. It might seem insignificant, however, I believe it is the ideal illustration of how this organization has finally turned the corner. Over the past five and three-quarter seasons, the Blues have accumulated 563 points. Only Chicago (573) and Pittsburgh (575) have more.

St.Louis was 13-1-0 versus Edmonton since January 5th, 2012, and outscored the Oil 51-23. They beat the Oilers for fun, but times are changing in Oilerville. They've outscored the Blues 12-7 over this three-game winning streak, and the Oilers enter tonight seven points up on the Blues.

The Oilers are no longer the doormat of the NHL, while many in St.Louis are wondering if their window to win the Stanley Cup has closed.
